It was our school tradition that the senior football players would ring the victory bell at the school after every football win. I was a senior and we finally beat our rivals after losing to them for three straight years. People were so happy that everyone was yelling and screaming. It was so loud. That’s what I remember the most about that win in October 1984.

There was a student in our class who never missed a day of school and had never even received a detention for doing something wrong in our years of high school. By the last couple of weeks a lot of us seniors were trying to do things that would get him in trouble so that he would get an after-school detention. It didn’t work. The teachers knew what we were doing.

When I think back to high school, I think of the teachers that I remember the most. And it was the tough teachers that I think of. Even though I hated going to their classes back then, I seem to remember them the most now.

The first race that I ever won. I was a distance runner and when I broke the string at the finish line I was able to hang on to a piece of it.

We had the perfect senior prom theme. It was “We May Never Pass This Way Again” which was a song by Seals and Crofts. As I got older, I found out that a lot of schools at that time had the same prom theme.

I’d be embarrassed to tell my kids my grade point average. I was just happy to graduate. I was more interested in having fun in high school.
